Braunton Academy Showcases Student Creativity in EX33 Magazine

16 Jan 26

Each month, Braunton Academy is proud to contribute a full editorial page to EX33 Magazine, sharing a selection of creative writing from our talented students. With the magazine reaching households across the local community, it offers a wonderful platform for young writers to have their voices heard and their imaginations celebrated.

January: A Bee’s-Eye View of the World

The January edition featured a beautifully crafted poem by Matilda, who chose to write from the unique perspective of a bee. Her piece captured the delicate balance of nature and the challenges faced by one of our most vital pollinators. Writing from a non-human viewpoint is no small task, yet Matilda brought empathy and vivid imagery  to her work. Her poem invited readers to pause and consider the world from a creature often overlooked but essential to our ecosystem.

February: Exploring the Art of Blackout Poetry

February’s edition highlighted two striking examples of Blackout poetry, a creative form that encourages writers to uncover hidden meaning within existing texts. By selecting specific words and phrases and obscuring the rest with bold black ink, students crafted entirely new poems with fresh interpretations and emotional depth.

This form of poetry not only challenges students to think critically about language but also allows them to express themselves visually. Many blackout poems become miniature works of art, with illustrations woven around the remaining words to enhance the mood or message. The two pieces featured in EX33 Magazine demonstrated just how inventive and expressive this medium can be.

Celebrating Young Voices

Our ongoing partnership with EX33 Magazine gives students a real sense of pride and purpose, knowing their work is being read and appreciated by the wider community. Each month brings new opportunities for creativity, reflection, and artistic growth — and we look forward to sharing many more pieces throughout the year.

If you’re part of the Braunton community, keep an eye out for future editions. You might just discover your new favourite writer.
