Summer Term Fun
Some of our Design & Technology students have been doing a little extra task as they had completed all required work a bit ahead of schedule. The challenge was to design and make a working boomerang. They put into practice all of their traditional hand-making skills to create the tapered wings accurately to suit a left- or right-handed thrower, learnt all about how basic aerodynamics works and then took inspiration from traditional aboriginal painting to decorate their boomerangs in a style fitting of the task – using no brushes, just sticks! The results have been amazing visually, but the true test was when we took them out to Tweedies’ field to test them in flight.
An engaging learning opportunity and also one that has extended their learning beyond what they normally do. Well done Year 9s!
