Surfers Making Waves on the National Stage
It has been an incredibly successful period for Braunton Academy's surfers, with students competing in a number of prestigious national competitions and achieving outstanding results.
A huge congratulations must go to Annie and Jack, who have both delivered exceptional performances against some of the country's top young surfing talent.
Annie continued her impressive form by finishing 3rd in the Under-16 Girls' English National Championships at Fistral Beach, Newquay, last weekend. Competing against the best junior surfers in England, Annie demonstrated great skill, determination and consistency throughout the event to secure a well-deserved place on the podium.
Meanwhile, Jack achieved a fantastic 3rd-place finish in the Rip Curl GromSearch at the end of May. In an incredibly competitive final, Jack narrowly missed out on the top spot, finishing just 0.2 points behind first place on the judges' wave scores. His performance showcased both his talent and his ability to perform under pressure in one of the UK's leading junior surfing competitions.
These achievements reflect the dedication, hard work and passion shown by our student surfers both in and out of the water. We are extremely proud to see Braunton Academy represented so successfully on the national surfing stage.
Unfortunately, with Oceanfest not taking place this year, there has not been an opportunity to hold the annual North Devon Schools' Surf Championships, a competition in which Braunton Academy has been the reigning champion for as long as many of us can remember.
Looking ahead, we are already planning for the return of the event in 2027. If you are a Braunton Academy student who surfs regularly and would be interested in representing the school in future competitions, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you as we begin building our team for the next North Devon Schools' Surf Championships.
Well done once again to Annie and Jack on their fantastic achievements—we look forward to following their continued success in the months ahead. 🌊🏄♀️🏄♂️
