Braunton Academy Swimmers Shine at the South West Regional Championships

Five talented swimmers from Braunton Academy have achieved an outstanding milestone this season, qualifying for the Swim England South West Regional Championships — one of the most competitive events in the swimming calendar.

To even reach this level places them within the top 13.8% of competitive swimmers in the entire South West Region, which spans six counties: Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Dorset. It’s an achievement that reflects exceptional commitment, discipline, and resilience.

Over the past three weekends, our swimmers have been racing at two major venues: Millfield, hosting the younger age groups, and Hengrove, where the older swimmers competed. Their performances were nothing short of inspiring.

 
Celebrating Our Regional Competitors

Joe (Year 10 – Competition Age 15) — Delivered a superb swim in the 50m freestyle, finishing 6th in the region.

Oliver (Year 7 – Competition Age 13) — A busy and impressive programme: 28th in the 200m freestyle, 11th in the 100m breaststroke, 5th in the 200m breaststroke, 19th in the 50m breaststroke, and 18th in the 400m freestyle.

Hamish (Year 7 – Competition Age 12) — A standout set of results, including 3rd in the 100m breaststroke, 4th in the 50m breaststroke, 5th in the 200m breaststroke, 10th in the 100m backstroke, 11th in the 200m IM, and 15th in the 50m backstroke.

Arthur (Year 7 – Competition Age 12) — Strong backstroke performances, finishing 23rd in the 100m and 24th in the 50m.
 
A Remarkable Achievement

Qualifying for Regionals is a significant accomplishment in itself. Competing — and placing so highly — among the best swimmers across six counties is something each of these athletes should be incredibly proud of.

Their dedication to early mornings, tough training sessions, and weekend‑long competitions has paid off. They have represented with determination, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm.
