This week, a group of students working with the Kailo Project visited the Braunton Countryside Centre as part of their ongoing work to improve mental health and wellbeing within the local community.

The Kailo Project focuses on identifying ways to enhance the quality of life for people living in Braunton, recognising the strong connection between living standards and mental health. As part of the project, students recently undertook an audit to identify and prioritise the issues that have the greatest impact on people's wellbeing.

One of the key concerns highlighted through this process was transport availability. During their visit, the students explored the challenges associated with local transport, discussing the barriers faced by residents and identifying the various stakeholders who may play a role in helping to address these issues.

The group also spent time exploring the Countryside Centre and the surrounding environment, considering how nature responds to challenges and change. By observing natural systems, students were encouraged to think creatively about problem-solving and resilience, drawing inspiration from the natural world to inform their own ideas.

In the afternoon session, the students focused on potential solutions and discussed practical ways in which positive change could be achieved within the community. Working collaboratively, they began developing ideas that could help improve access to services and opportunities for local residents.

This visit marks just one stage of the Kailo Project's ongoing work. Future sessions will see students continue to explore other factors affecting mental health and wellbeing, working together to develop action plans and create meaningful change for the people of Braunton.

We look forward to following their progress and seeing the positive impact their work can have on our community.
