Seven of our students have been taking part in the Carnegie Shadowing Book Club, reading the shortlisted books for the Carnegie Award, discussing and judging them.

To finish off the shadowing this year, we attended an event at Pilton Community College where our students performed a piece of drama based on one of the shortlisted books, competing against other local schools. For their performance, our students read out scenes from The First Year by Matt Goodfellow, and acted them out on stage. They then got to watch author Tia Fisher as she discussed her book that was shortlisted last year, Crossing the Line, and introduced her new book, Not Going to Plan! Students engaged so well in the Q&A, and enjoyed purchasing some of the selected stock brought in by Waterstones.  Students did a fantastic job representing Braunton Academy and had a great experience interacting with an author.

So a huge well done to Lucy, India, Flo, Destiny, Tomos, Sofia and Indie!

We are already looking forward to seeing next year's shortlist!
