Year 10 Students Explore Engineering at Exeter College Discovery Day
On Wednesday 2 July, a group of enthusiastic Year 10 students took part in an exciting Discovery Day at Exeter College. Among them, eight students had the opportunity to explore the college’s renowned Engineering Faculty through a series of hands-on taster sessions.
The day was designed to give students a real insight into the world of engineering and the opportunities available to them after Year 11. The group participated in three engaging and interactive sessions:
Virtual Welding – Students experienced the precision and skill required in welding using state-of-the-art virtual reality technology.
CAD Design – They explored the fundamentals of Computer-Aided Design, learning how engineers bring ideas to life through digital modelling.
Pit Stop Challenge – In a fast-paced team activity, students tested their problem-solving and teamwork skills by simulating a Formula 1-style tyre change.
Throughout the day, Exeter College staff were on hand to answer questions and provide guidance on the wide range of post-16 courses available from September 2026. The event offered a valuable opportunity for students to start thinking about their future pathways and to experience the dynamic environment of a leading further education college.
The Discovery Day was a fantastic success, sparking curiosity and excitement about the possibilities within engineering and beyond.
