Introducing Our New Principal and Vice Principal Student Leaders

23 May 25

This half term Mrs Bowler spent the day with Mr Ovey, Mrs Woodhead and one of our Trustees, Mr Wainer, interviewing 14 candidates for the role of Principal Student. The 14 candidates went through a rigorous pre-selection process to reach this stage. During the interview they had to complete a 5-minute presentation to the interview panel and then answer several questions. All the students performed amazingly well and are wonderful ambassadors for the school. All the students pick up leadership roles in the areas of transition, school ethos, House competitions and charity work and will lead the other 34 Prefects in creating action plans of work they will complete throughout next year. Our new Principal and Vice Principal students will keep you updated on the progress of the whole team’s work in the Parents’ Post over the next twelve months. This is always an immensely proud and emotional day for all of those involved; Mr Ovey, Head of Year 10, commented how privileged he is to lead such a wonderful group of young leaders.

My name is Eva and I am the newly appointed Principal Student. I am so grateful for this opportunity and excited to make a positive impact in school. I believe that trying hard and committing to something has as great a value as winning or being the best. Supporting others and being kind should be recognised just as highly as achieving top grades. I hope to be a good role model and to work with students and staff to make school a happy and kind environment for everybody.

I'm Ryley, and I'm thrilled to have been made Principal Student for the upcoming academic year. This is something that I've dreamt of since Year 7, and I'm so glad to have been given this opportunity. I'd like to ensure that all students have their opinions voiced on things that matter to them most. I'm really excited for this upcoming year and can't wait to represent the students and the school in so many ways!

I am Poppy and I am one of Braunton Academy’s newly appointed Vice Principal Students. I am so proud to represent such an amazing and supportive community and have always felt comfortable, safe and supported. I am keen to ensure that every member of the Academy feels this way. It is vital for schools to strive for excellence, not just academically, but also through kindness, inclusivity and the growth of our school community. I am very grateful for the opportunity that I have been given, and I am excited to work alongside students, and parents, in order to ensure that every member of our community feels valued, supported and heard.

I am Harry, and I would like to say I am proud to be one of the Vice Principal students.

After being awarded this position, my job is to put myself forward to help improve the school and welcome the Year 6 students so they feel supported and show them what this fantastic school offers. This could be taking part in extra-curricular activities, be it sport or our wide range of subjects which our loyal teaching staff support. I feel this role is important for me so I can listen to the student voice and allow them to express their ideas and thoughts. Starting a new school can feel a little scary, but we are all here to support you through the time you have here at Braunton Academy.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you.
