Student Rewards

Rewards

Here at Braunton Academy we recognise that when our students work hard and achieve success, it is important that we recognise their efforts and reward them for their excellence whilst celebrating this with them and the rest of the student body. We therefore have a variety of different systems in place to reward students when and where appropriate.

Merits

Students can be awarded merits for a variety of different positive reasons across the Academy in areas such as classroom learning and engagement, volunteering and leadership as well as extra-curricular representation.

When students reach the upper threshold for the bronze, silver, gold or platinum standard, merit badges are awarded.

These badges are awarded to students when they reach the following number of merits in a single academic year:-

Bronze merit badge - 65 merits

Silver merit badge - 130 merits

Gold merit badge - 170 merits

Platinum merit badge - 200 merits

Scholar Star

The ‘Scholar Star’ badge is awarded to students who have the best engagement for learning statistics in their year group after each Mid Term Assessment (MTA) progress report.

These badges are awarded to students when they are awarded the ‘Scholar Star’:-

Bronze Star

1st time of achieving the Scholar Star in the same academic year.

Silver Star

2nd time of achieving the Scholar Star in the same academic year.

Gold Star

3rd time of achieving the Scholar Star in the same academic year.

Student of the Month

Each month, all departments award a ‘Student of the Month’ as recognition for any number of things which the Head of Department feels is appropriate. This could be for their commitment, contribution, engagement, progress, and/or attainment or for anything that the student is deserving of the recognition and reward for.

The above reward systems are presented to students in their weekly year group assemblies and presented to them either by their Tutor, Head of Year or the Senior Leadership Team.

These badges are awarded to students when they reach the following number of academic, classroom based merits in a single academic year:-

Attendance

Weekly Rewards

The best house for attendance in the previous week is rewarded with a ‘queue jump’ and is able to join the front of the canteen queue at lunchtime. Students are notified every Monday by Mr Milton and are identified by the prefects in the queue by their house colour tie.

Termly Rewards

At the end of every term, the best attended tutor group in each year over the past term is awarded a tub of chocolates and a tutor group certificate.

Term 3

At the end of half term 3, all students with a 100% attendance are given a certificate and sent a letter from the Principal, Mrs Bowler.

End of the Academic Year – Year Group

At the end of the academic year, the best attended year group is awarded the attendance trophy in the end of year assembly
