Farewell and Thank you for the music
It was with heavy hearts that students and parents in the audience said farewell to Mrs Turnbull, Head of Music, at the recent concert. Mrs Turnbull has been at the school since 1998 and has organised many, many concerts in which students have had the opportunity to show off their musical talents. She has also led the school orchestra in accompaniment to many a Drama Club show, including Billy Elliott, Peter Pan, The Lark and numerous others. For her final Summer Concert, eleven former members of the school orchestra surprised Mrs Turnbull in an emotional reunion which she'll never forget. They all brought along their instruments, including cellos, bassoon, flutes, clarinets, trumpet and trombone, and joined the orchestra in playing three pieces during the concert. Several of the surprise guests also gave a boost to the choir in singing their favourite song "Vois Sur Ton Chemin". The plan was initiated by Mrs Boulton and Ms Ratcliffe, and involved subterfuge on a grand scale as the secret musicians, some of whom had travelled from as far afield as Glasgow and Durham, needed to come into school undercover to collect musical scores and rehearse their parts. Mrs Turnbull's dedication and enthusiasm will be sorely missed by all of us here who love music.
