Keen musicians from Braunton Academy were busy over the summer break raising much needed funds for the Music Department. All year groups were represented at several busking sessions alongside the Braunton Craft Markets, and also at The Thatch pub in Croyde. The public were rightly impressed by the talents on display and generously dropped their spare change in the donation buckets. By the end of the school holiday, a fantastic total of £372 was amassed which will go a long way to providing new instruments and equipment for the Music Department. Huge thanks go to all the students who performed, and also to the parents who arranged the events, transported students and their equipment, and supported in any way.
Up to the end of the 2017-18 academic year, the Music Dept. Fundraising Group had raised an impressive £1000 through the efforts of students and parents at various events including Open Mic, Vinyl Night, Music Quiz and the Village Fair. As well as this impressive windfall, a further £50 was collected from the parking field at the recent On The Road Music Festival. Some of the money raised has already been spent on a new drum kit for the Band Practice Room, and a set of music stands for orchestra, as well as going towards some new keyboards for the Music Room.
